CAVANI’S STUNNER ELIMINATES RONALDO’S PORTUGAL
A second curler from PSG’s Edison Cavani saw off a spirited Portugal in the second round of 16 match of the day.
Uruguay came into the game as one of the stand out performance after winning all three games without conceding any goal. And they lived up to the hype when a sumptuous Suarez cross was brilliantly turned home by Cavani to give the South Americans the lead,
The goal woke up Portugal who went on the offensive and turned up the heat in search of an equalizer. They finally got their reward when Pepe turned in a short corner routine and levelled the game for the Europeans.
But the best came for last. Receiving a loose ball, Cavani unleashed a curler that found the bottom right corner, beating the goalkeeper.
It was a goal worthy to win any game and on this occasion, it was enough to settle the encounter.
Cavani later wobbed off the field with what looked like a calf injury, but his heroics ensured Uruguay face France in the Quarter-Final.
